In July 2016 I photographed the wedding of Nicole and Marco in the mountains above Soquel CA. Held at a family residence, the wedding was intimate and relaxed. Hard to beat a warm summer evening in the beautiful Santa Cruz hills.

As a portrait photographer, I'd grown to (perhaps a bit unfairly) resent harsh sunlight. One of the basic things that one learns when they start learning about portrait photography is to avoid direct sun during the afternoon because of the potential ugly shadows and squinty faces. While that generally holds true, it can be really beautiful when the sun starts to inch lower and the angle of the light starts creating brilliant contrasts. Sunset photos are perennial favorites but I find that photos of people under warm sunset light are even better.
